Over 700 million batteries are sent to landfill in the UK each year, which is very harmful to the environment. With this in mind, local firm KCS Trade Print have opened a battery recycling point at their Pennygillam premises.
The company, who recently opened their brand new digital print shop are inviting members of the public to dispose of their used batteries for recycling free of charge.
KCS have an ongoing commitment to the environment, including sourcing paper from sustainable forests and working towards the ISO14001 environmental management system. They have introduced the recycling point to help prevent the dangers of batteries going to landfill.
Rachael Bice, Waste Management Office for Cornwall County Council delivered the specially designed battery recycling tube, which can hold all forms of household batteries including AAA, AA, C and D sizes as well as button, mobile phone and rechargeable.
Inviting members of the public to dispose of their batteries at the KCS facility, Managing Director Terrye Teverson commented, “
Currently, households in the UK throw away 22,000 tonnes worth of batteries, of which less than 220 tonnes are offered for safe recycling and safe disposal.
Opening hours will be 8.30 – 17.30, Monday to Friday.
